Dawn Busters

Welcome to the Bongin Bongin Dawn Busters. We swim each day, rain, hail or shine, at Mona Vale Basin otherwise known as Bongin Bongin Bay.

We meet at 6:30am week days and at 7:30am on weekends and public holidays. In the middle of winter when it is very dark we will sometime delay our weekday swim until 6:45am or about 15 minutes before sunrise.

To find us go down to Mona Vale beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and go to the beach north of the swimming pool. No, we don’t swim in the pool, not unless the sea is extremely rough or full of blue bottles but rather in the “bay” to the north of the pool. We swim out to the north headland then back to the pool and from there to the beach (approximately 0.8Km). On weekends, and when the water is not too cold or rough, we will swim from the headland around the outside of the pool and then go into shore at the surf club (approximately 1.2Km).

Everybody is welcome to join us, female, male, young, old, freestylers and yes even breaststrokers. All you have to do is be there at the right time. A number of people wear fins and a few of the weaker souls put on wetsuits in winter. Nearly everybody wears a cap and swimming goggles.

Remember though that this is an unpatrolled beach and the conditions can sometimes be unpredictable. It is not the same as swimming in a pool and you should keep in mind that you are totally responsible for keeping yourself safe. Having said that if you are new and not quite yet a fish in the water then just ask someone to swim by you. Most will be happy to do so but they are not qualified at saving you, just at keeping you company.

If you are interested just come along one day and see what we do. Better still put on a swimsuit, introduce yourself and take the plunge.

We look forward to seeing you there.
